Chris is an Authorised Financial Adviser and is highly qualified in all areas of financial planning. He graduated with a BCA in 1976 with a major in Tax, Trusts and Estate Planning at Victoria University, Wellington. He has been an insurance and investment adviser since 1976 and has had over 40 years’ experience in financial planning and advice.
Chris completed the NZ Diploma in Life Assurance in 1980. He has qualified by examination to be a Member of the NZ Institute of Chartered Insurance and Investment Advisers and is entitled to use the distinctive title and designation CLU (Chartered Life Underwriter), the pinnacle of professional attainment for insurance advisers. He was one of the first 20 advisers in N.Z. to hold this title.
In 1992 he was admitted as a Member on the Register of Investment Advisers and Financial Planners. In 1997 Chris became an inaugural CFP (Certified Financial Planner) practitioner, the leading designation for an investment adviser.
The IAFP (formerly the LUA which he joined in 1977) and IIAA (which he joined in 1988) merged in 1999 to form the FPIA which subsequently became the Institute of Financial Advisers (IFA) which became Financial Advice New Zealand in 2018. He is bound by the Financial Advice NZ Code of Ethics, and its character, business undertakings, education, experience, practice, disclosure and disciplinary standards contained in the Standards of Professional Practice. He is a Fellow of Financial Advice New Zealand.
He was the first New Zealander to hold both the CFP and CLU designations. Chris complies with the ongoing education requirements of the IFA. This is a minimum of 20 hours continuing education every year. He normally undertakes over 50 hours per year in seminars, study groups, training courses and educational conferences.
He is also a Member of the international Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT), the Premier Association of Financial Professionals, since 1980, a MDRT Top of the Table member on several occasions, a Fellow of the New Zealand Financial Adviser's Association (NZFAA) and was appointed JP in 1992.
As one of the country’s leading Financial Advisers, Chris has also spoken to and debated for industry groups, seminars, service clubs and the media in N.Z., Australia, U.K. and North America.
He is a former Hutt City Councillor, a former Trustee of the Te Omanga Hospice Foundation for 10 years and was a Rotarian for over 20 years.
He is married to Kathryn, has three children and has lived in Woburn, Lower Hutt all his life.
